List of Things I Want to Bake and Post but Haven't Yet...

Do you have anything you'd like to see me bake in the near future (which means in the next few weeks..)? I've got quite a few things I want to make but haven't gotten around to just yet...
-Mint chip ice cream (if I get around to picking some mint today, I just might be able to make some...I found a great looking recipe)
-Homemade granola, or granola bars
-Something seriously chocolate (it's been awhile since I've done anything with crazy amounts of chocolate)
-Lemon tart or lemon meringue pie or something similar (that will have to wait until my Meyer lemons ripen)
-Lime bars
-Sourdough (I need to get a starter going...perhaps I can do that today as well....) bread
The list is going to go on and on (and I must admit that I might post more of this later on...when my brain just can't think of anything else).

Go check out Blogathon and sponsor someone today!

Hello, and nice of you to do this for such a good cause!

I vote for the sourdough bread (of course) :-)

How do you plan to just "start" some sourdough? Are you going to be sitting it out, or do you plan on using, say, a packet of Rapunzel yeast to get everything going? I'm ever so curious, because I've just given my entire sourdough starter away, in preparation for an international move, so I'm going to have to re-start on the other end.

Davimack: usually it involves some flour and water and a few days of feeding and letting the beasties age (harnessing the natural yeast and enzymes that live in the air). I'll get myself geared up to do a post about it soon...in the next week sound good? :)

That's about the way I did mine last time - just left it sitting out on the counter, pretty much. Mine took quite a while, though, before it really came into its own, so when you said that you were going to just START one ... I thought you had some secret voodoo that you might be willing to share. ;)

Hehheh Davimack, I wish there was some secret voodoo for starters! I do know that the air here in the SF bay area (I'm at the very southern end of the bay) is very good for sourdough starters, so maybe that will help give things a little boost?

Ahh. Well, you're closer to the "San Francisco Sourdough" thing than I - I'm up in Benicia, so while I've got the bay ... it's just not the same.

I did get quite an active culture going after a while - it would triple in the fridge overnight, and on the counter in a couple of hours. But, alas, it's found a new home in the Napa Valley, as it just wouldn't pack well. :)

Davimack: I once had the most awesome sourdough starter going in Wisconsin(think that was six years ago). It was very active, made gorgeous bread and I was very diligent about feeding it regularly. Sadly I went on vacation for four days and the friend I had trusted it with somehow managed to completely kill it during that short time period. Thinking of this makes me feel the need to get things started this week and I hope to have something bubbling for me by next week sometime. I'll blog it and keep track with photos. :)
